Welcome to gearX.com
The Outdoor Gear Exchange has an extensive selection of both used and brand-new consignment gear. Do you have used gear clogging up your closet? We’ll sell it for you! Is it clean, functional, and seasonally appropriate? Well then, don’t you dare throw that in a landfill so it can potentially decompose! Respect the natural world that you live in and love to explore, and recycle your used gear through the Outdoor Gear Exchange. You’ll get some money back as cash or as store credit, so you can fill that freshly cleaned closet with fly, new gear!
Consignment outdoor gear just makes sense; you love the outdoors, you love vintage purple and teal jackets as much as your hot new telemark boots, and you don’t want either to end up in a trash pile. By recycling your gear, you’re living up to the social contract that exists between us nature-lovers and the outdoor industry that doesn’t necessarily abide by strong environmental practices. The Outdoor Gear Exchange prides itself on environmental stewardship, and our consignment program is an integral part of our environmental mission statement. Annnnnd....you’re saving money! With the economy still in flux, why not re-use someone else’s hiking shoes? They’re still in great shape, they don’t stink, and they need a home. Please give them a home.
Consigning your gear with the Outdoor Gear Exchange is easy. Just send an email to email@example.com with list of the items you’re interested in selling (brand, color, size, sex, MSRP, and interested OGE selling price), and any pictures of the gear that may be helpful to us. We’ll reply to let you know whether we’re interested in any of your items for consignment, and you can then either bring them into our Burlington, VT store or send them to:

We accept technical clothing, hiking shoes, climbing gear, sleeping bags and pads. We also take more seasonally specific items such as telemark skis and snowshoes. We only accept gear that is seasonally appropriate; we accept shorts in summer or telemark skis in winter. Any type of item or gear that you see on our web pages may be eligible for consignment with us. All items need to be clean and fully functioning; boots need laces & insoles, sleeping bags need stuff sacks, and all zippers need to zip properly. We reserve the right to refuse anything that we deem to be in poor condition do to use or cleanliness, and the consignor is responsible for shipping the items back if we refuse, or said items will be donated.
Update 4/15/13: We are no longer accepting any winter goods for the season. Please wait until next fall to bring in your telemark, nordic, and A.T. skis, boots, and bindings, down jackets and vests, baselayers, winter boots, and ice climbing gear. We are currently taking in shorts, tees, tanks, sandals, kayaks, and bike-related gear. No manky climbing shoes or harnesses, and please, please, no used bike shorts. Please.
Payment: Consignee will receive 75% of what the item sells for in store credit on a personal OGE account that can be used either in-store or on Gearx.com. The consignee may exchange that store credit for cash or check to 65% of the selling price. The Outdoor Gear Exchange reserves the right to discount items up to 10% at any point. Brand new items must be discounted a minimum of 20% of the suggested retail price. The OGE is not responsible for damages incurred while an item is on consignment. There is a 12-day waiting period before payment becomes available to allow for potential returns. Stolen Items will be paid out at their lowest price after 12 days. Although unlikely, if after 6 months any or all of the consigned items remain unsold the Outdoor Gear Exchange has the right re-price the item(s) to sell, and after 1 year has the option to donate said item(s) to charity.
