In a world overrun with light hiking and trail running shoes, the Asolo TPS 520 GV stands firm against the tide: it is a big, bad, backpacking boot and it makes no apologies for the fact. For serious backpackers and outdoor professionals who need a boot that can carry big loads and last through years of heavy use, the TPS 520 GV is ready for the challenge.
TPS stands for Triple Power Structure, and it refers to the construction of the sole that supports the boot's burly full-grain leather and Gore-Tex upper. The TPS sole features three shock-absorbing cylinders of made of high-and-low density polyurethane in the areas of the foot that receive the greatest impacts during activity: two of them are in the heel, and a third is under the metatarsal region. In addition to the cylindrical shock absorbers, the sole as a whole has three elements: a high-density polyurethane midsole that can support heavy loads and won't pack out over time like lighter-weight EVA foam midsoles will; a low-density polyurethane element to absorb shocks before they are transmitted through the high-density midsole; and the Vibram® rubber outsole which provides traction with the ground.
