Nickel Bag Program – A Year In Review

The Nickel Bag Program at Outdoor Gear Exchange is one of the many ways we support local nonprofit organizations. We encourage our customers not to take plastic shopping bags from us by donating 5¢ for every bag that is saved! At the end of each month we total up the nickels and choose a nonprofit organization to receive it as a donation. We choose our Nickel Bag Recipients based on our mission of environmental conservation, education, and recreation.

In the year of 2013 we raised a total of $2,809.82 while saving approximately 56,000 plastic bags in the process!

Since the programs’ inception in 2007 we have donated $10,284.52 and saved over 260,000 plastic bags from ending up in landfills!

Thanks for your efforts to consciously address this issue and help us support our local nonprofit organizations!

Here is a list of the Nickel Bag recipients for the year of 2013. If you can think of an organization that you would like to see as a recipient, leave a comment below!
