Most Valuable Gear: Camp Blade Runner Crampon

The World's Most Versatile Crampon for Technical Ice Climbing, Alpine Climbing and Mountaineering!

Modern crampons are highly specialized, technical tools with distinct feature-sets optimized for various types of climbing. In the past, a climber needed to have multiple different pairs of crampons for different uses, or to fit different boots. However, the revolutionary new Cassin Blade Runner crampons from CAMP have changed the game, providing incredible versatility, performance and customization. The Cassin Blade Runner crampon can be tailored to take you from glacier travel, to vertical water ice climbing, to technical mixed climbing with just once set of crampons! This innovative, fully featured design is why we have made both models of the the CAMP Cassin Blade Runner crampon this week's Most Valuable Gear selection!

Here are three reasons why we love the CAMP Cassin Blade Runner crampons:

1. Interchangeable Toe Bails

One of the most revolutionary aspects of the CAMP Cassin Blade Runner crampons is the interchangeable parts that allow climbers to tailor their crampons to the specific terrain or activity that they are using them for. Both the Blade Runner and the Blade Runner Alpine come with both a set of automatic and a set of semi-automatic toe bails. If you are climbing in a pair of technical mountaineering boots with toe and heel lugs, use the automatic toe bail for a secure fit. If you are alpine climbing in a pair of boots without toe lugs, or you are strapping your crampons onto a pair of hiking boots with heel lugs, swap in the semi-automatic toe bails.

2. Configurable and Interchangeable Frontpoints

Climbers often select mono frontpoints for technical mixed climbing and hard vertical ice, or dual frontpoints for long pitches of ice or alpine climbing. Additionally, climbers prefer wider, less aggressive points for snow walking and mountaineering or hiking. The CAMP Cassin Blade Runner crampons give climbers the option to easily swap between mono or dual frontpoints as well as adjust the offset of and width between the points. Additionally, snow frontpoints can be swapped in for mountaineering ascents or glacier travel. The Blade Runner crampon comes with two ice frontpoints, while the Blade Runner Alpine comes with two snow frontpoints. Additional accessory frontpoints are available separately.

3. Innovative Heel Slide Design

The CAMP Cassin Blade Runner crampons feature a patented new heel slide design that combines adjustability with power and stability. Constructed from CAMP's Sandvik Nanoflex® steel, which is incredibly strong and durable stainless steel, the heel slide on the Blade Runner is just 1.8 mm. The innovative heel slide provides the precision and easy adjustment of a horizontal design with the torsional rigidity of a vertical design for power and stability. Additionally, the heel step clamps beneath the heel of the boot for improved kick and a secure fit. The heel slide design allows the crampon to compress down for packability.Â
