Most Valuable Gear: Dynafit Speed Turn Ski Binding

A new benchmark of simplicity and ultralight touring performance!

The earliest tech bindings from Dynafit were revolutionary, both in their unconventional minimalism and exceptional touring performance. Over time, the tech binding concept has grown and the technology has become increasingly reliable. Modern tech bindings, like the Marker Kingpin, Diamir Fritschi Vipec and Dynafit's own Beast 16 have evolved to improve power transmission, downhill capability and incorporate release value. Yet all of these advancements in technology have resulted in slightly heavier bindings and more complex designs. The TLT Speed Turn stays true to the minimalist origins of touring bindings, with an ultralight, simplistic design that shares a lineage with the original Dynafit TLT and follow-up TLT Speed. The TLT Speed Turn is an incredibly light, high-performance touring binding with simple climbing functionality for ascending remote peaks and searching for untracked couloirs.

Here are 3 reasons why we love the Dynafit TLT Speed Turn Tech Binding:

1. Classic, ultralight design

The Dynafit TLT Speed Turn is one of the most minimalist and lightweight ski touring bindings available short of a ski mountaineering race binding. It draws directly from the original Dynafit Tourlite Tech (TLT) with its minimalist toe-piece and simple turning heel-piece. The TLT Speed Turn features a lightweight steel and high-strength plastic construction for exceptional durability and weight reduction. The TLT Speed Turn has the reliable touring and boot retention functionality that you need on high consequence terrain, but without any additional features that will add unnecessary weight and technical complexity. The original TLT and subsequent iterations have been trusted by skiers for decades and the TLT Speed Turn is sure to continue that legacy. tltspeedturn (1)

2. Simple, efficient touring

As with most Dynafit products, the touring performance of the TLT Speed Turn is unparalleled. Featuring a simple Dynafit tech toe-piece that promotes freedom of movement while skinning, combined with a simple heel-piece that can be released easily and without removing the boot from the binding, the TLT Speed Turn is efficient and user friendly. Since the boot connects at the toe with two simple pins while the heel moves freely, ultralight touring is energy efficient and facilitates fast ascents. The simple design of the TLT Speed Turn makes it an ideal binding for long, technical tours and fast transitions. tlt

3. Minimalist heel-piece and climbing riser

While the toe-piece of the TLT Speed Turn is similar to those on other Dynafit tech bindings, the heel-piece is simpler than those featured on most other Dynafit models and tech bindings from other brands. The heel-piece is similar to the design of the original TLT and the the TLT speed, with a twisting design and a simple climbing riser. The heel detaches for climbing by twisting the heel piece, while the climbing riser engages with further rotation.  The functions of the heel-piece do not require you to remove your boot from the binding like some touring bindings do. The simplicity of the heel-piece cuts weight and increases speed in the skin track, while remaining competent on the descent. tltspeed2
