Snow in VT!!

It snowed on the mountains here in VT overnight and into the morning! Thats right people – snow on Columbus Day! Although there was only a couple inches at higher altitudes, and nothing but rain down below, GearX.com‘s backcountry expert and enthusiast, Jake Evans, took a hike and was rewarded with his first turns of the season!

Vermont Avalanche

Skiers Trigger Two Avalanches – One Buried

Where: Mount Mansfield, VT

When: February 25th, 2012

Safety Equipment: Shovel, Avalanche Probe, Avalanche Beacon

The avalanche resulted in the burial of one skier up to his neck while a group was skinning across a gladed area with a pitch of ~35 degrees. He was quickly dug out by friends.
