Outdoor Passions: Hiking, Backpacking (or any kind of Camping), Skiing, Mountain Biking, Paddling Canoes or Kayaks, and occasional Climbing
A native Vermonter, I was raised on a 140 acre piece of land near the town of Brattleboro. It had been home to a summer drama camp for girls in the 1950s, and through my childhood the remaining cabins, forests, fields, and streams constantly provided me with new adventures. We never had TV, so I spent most of my time outside. To my young self this was business as usual. Not until I grew older did I realize that I had a very unique childhood, and that I was very lucky in a way.
I've worked in Weblandia at the Outdoor Gear Exchange since 2007. Currently I'm in charge of adding new products to gearX.com so you can shop from a great selection and find our best deals as soon as they are available!
My greater outdoor exploits began at a young age with day hikes and occasional overnights in the Whites, Greens, and Adirondaks. In high school I had my first taste of truly big mountains with a 4 day backpack through the Sierra Nevada of California. Several years later I returned to California for college and had my first extended wilderness experience with a 9 day trek in a different part of the Sierras. I was hooked. After two years of enjoying the beautiful, California outdoors more than my classes, I decided college was a bad investment for me and I headed to Lander, WY for a semester with NOLS. Two weeks hiking in the Wind River mountains, two weeks paddling on the Green River, two weeks climbing at Sinks Canyon, and a month hiking through the canyons of the Escalante River left me a changed person. Living out in the wilderness, away from human society for the greater part of three months makes you look at the world in a different way.
