How to Consign Your Gear

We accept consignment every day at our Burlington and Essex locations until one hour before we close. Here's how it works:

1. Get Your Gear Ready

Before you come in, clean and assess your gear for wear, defects, and missing parts. We accept outdoor gear, clothing, and footwear in good or better condition.

It can be helpful to put together a list of your gear ahead of time that includes the info below, but our staff will help you during consignment if you aren't able to.

  • Brand
  • Description of gear
  • How much your gear cost when it was new
  • How much you'd like to sell your gear for

2. Bring In Your Gear

Once you've got your gear together, come to OGE and head to the consignment desk. In Burlington, it's in the back of the shop. In Essex, it's at the front register.

  • If you're consigning skis, snowboards, ski boots, ski bindings, or bikes, you'll need to stop off at our service department desk first for one of our techs to check over the condition of your gear.

Before we take in your gear, we'll create a consignment account for you using your name, email address, and phone number. Then, we'll assess your gear's condition, accept (or reject) it, and help you price it.

After we complete your intake, you'll sign and receive a copy of a contract agreeing to our consignment policies. We'll also give you a quick tutorial on how to check your consignment credit balance and the status of your gear on our website.

Mail-in Consignment

If you aren't able to make it in to one of our locations, you're welcome to ship your gear to us. Address it to:

You are responsible for the cost of shipping to us as well as the cost of shipping back refused gear. Email a list of what you'd like to consign to [email protected] before shipping it and we'll let you know if we'll accept it. If you don't want your refused gear shipped back to you, we'll donate it.

After we receive and accept your gear, we'll email you with suggested pricing and a copy of our consignment contract for you to review and accept.

3. Leave it to us!

We'll tag and merchandise your consignment out on our sales floor. Then, our knowledgeable outdoor experts will help sell your gear!

Getting Paid

We post your consignment credit to your account 12 days after your gear sells. Our payout percentages are:

  • 65% of your gear's selling price in store credit, or
  • 55% of your gear's selling price in cash.

Once your credit is in your account, it'll never expire. You can use it for in-store purchases at any of our locations, online purchases on our website, or you can redeem it for its cash value.

Using Your Credit Online

To use your consignment credit on our website, it needs to be converted to an OGE gift card first.

Cashing Out Your Credit

You can cash out your consignment credit at the front registers of our Burlington and Essex locations, or you can request for a check to be mailed to you.

These lists are not all-inclusive and what we accept depends on seasonality, our current inventory, and our staff's discretion. You can contact us ahead of time if you're not sure if we'll accept a piece of gear.

Paddlefest 2024 Boat Swap Details

From April 27 through May 2, we'll be accepting lightly-used kayaks, canoes, and SUPs on consignment for our annual Paddlefest boat swap! If you're planning on consigning a boat with us, here's what you need to know:

  • Paddlefest 2024 is happening exclusively at OGE Essex! We won't be accepting any boats at our Burlington location this year.
    • Please note that our Essex location is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays and you won't be able to bring your boat in on those days.
  • When you consign a boat during our Paddlefest intake period, we'll give you a $20 OGE gift certificate!
  • Boats must be clean and in good or better condition in order to be consigned.
  • We encourage you to call ahead or contact our customer service team with some details about your boat before bringing it in. We'll get back to you right away and let you know if you should make the trip.
  • All sales on used boats during Paddlefest Weekend will be final.
  • If your boat doesn't sell during Paddlefest Weekend, you'll have to come pick it up during the following week.

Consignment Policies

Payment Policy
  • When your gear sells, you will receive 65% of its selling price in OGE store credit. The store credit will be posted to your OGE customer account.
    • There is a 12-day waiting period before store credit is posted to your account to allow for potential returns.
  • You can cash out your store credit to receive 55% of your gear's selling price by:
    • Requesting a cash payout from the front registers of OGE's Burlington and Essex locations.
    • Requesting a check be mailed to you. Requested consignment payout checks are mailed at the end of each month.
      • We are unable to send out checks for less than $50 unless all of your gear has been sold.
    • Cash payouts of more than $100 may require a check to be sent.
  • To use your store credit online at gearx.com, it needs to be converted to an OGE gift card first.
  • We don't notify you when your gear has sold.
  • A photo ID is required to use your store credit or get a cash payout at one of our locations.
Pricing Policy
  • We will help you price your gear during the consignment intake process. Pricing is dependent on your gear's condition, its desirability, and our current inventory.
    • Expect to price gear in good or better condition at 40% - 60% of its current retail value.
  • Gear in brand-new condition must be priced at least 20% less than its current retail value.
  • Once your gear's initial selling price is set, you won't be able to change it.
Discounting Policy
  • When your gear sells at a discounted price, your payout will be based on that rate.
  • If your gear doesn't sell within two months of being consigned, it will be discounted automatically.
    • We may discount your gear by up to 10% before two months have passed for qualifying circumstances.
  • If the price of your gear becomes greater than 80% of its current retail value, it will be discounted.
Consigned Item Policies

Stolen Item Policy

  • If your gear is stolen from OGE, you will receive 65% store credit based on its current selling price after 12 days.

Damaged Item Policy

  • We are not responsible for damage to your gear while it is on consignment.
  • If your consigned gear is determined to be unsellable, we will notify you to request that you pick it up within 2 weeks.

Seasonal Merchandising Policy

  • During busy seasons, it may take up to 14 days for your consignment to be merchandised on our sales floor.
  • Out-of-season items may be removed from our sales floor and back-stocked.
Donation Policy
  • If your gear hasn't sold within 8 months of being consigned, we reserve the right to donate it to one of our community partners.
  • We don't notify you when your gear has been donated.
