The new women’s specific TLT5: the ideal choice for female skiers who demand the best in boots for long distances and high altitude tours. Also the best option for tours with difficult climbing both on ice and rock, thanks to its short rockered sole and perfect crampon compatibility. The additional Downhill Booster tongue makes it extremely supportive during technical and steep descents, while the racing-derived Ultra-Lock system allows for incredible cuff rotation and uphill agility with a super fast, single-motion transition from walk to ski mode. Designed for a wider range of users, the women’s TLT5 Mountain version features a Grilamid cuff for a great combination of lightness and downhill performance, a new spoiler with adjustable forward lean angle and women specific liners and design.
The biggest innovation that the TLT5 brought to the market was its hugely mobile cuff. The range of motion it affords is unlike anything that had come before in the world of ski boots, AT or telemark, making walking and climbing a dream. It also comes with a pair of removable tongues, which can be removed for maximum mobility on the climb up and put back in to add stiffness and control on the way down. Some users don't like fiddling with them once they're out on the snow, so they'll just leave them in for shorter days.
Besides all of the flex in the cuff, there is also some flex in the forefoot of the boot, which combines with the 5 degree upward slope of the toe to make walking on dirt or pavement relatively easy.
On the downhill, the consensus is that the TLT5s are quite responsive, although hard-charging big mountain skiers will probably find themselves wanting something with a bit more power and precision. Fortunately, Dynafit has since expanded their line with more boots based on the TLT concept that provide just that: check out the Mercury and the Vulcan.
