The Gregory Deva 70-liter pack has enjoyed a long run as one of the best-selling big backpacks on GearX.com, and with good reason. It's a comfortable, customizable multi-day pack that has enough room for all of your essentials - without being grossly oversized.
Carrying comfort has always been the foremost concern of Gregory packs (founder Wayne Gregory is credited with the idea that a pack should be fitted and worn, not strapped on and carried) and the Response AFS Suspension found on the Deva embodies everything Gregory has learned since its inception in 1977. The shoulder straps are well-padded and ergonomically pre-curved, height-adjustable within each torso size, as well as interchangeable in case you require a longer or shorter strap (for instance, putting size-large straps on a size-medium pack). The all-important hip belt is similarly pre-curved and interchangeable, and also includes a pivoting function that allows it to automatically match the angle of your hips. The lumbar pad features Gregory's Gription compound so that it will stay in place and not slip around on your back. Behind the suspension, the pack is laid out in traditional multi-day fashion. At the base is a sleeping bag compartment with a removable divider that it allows it to become part of the main compartment, if you so choose. A large, zippered front compartment holds items separate from the main volume, and a zipper inside that front pocket allows you to get through to the main compartment.
THE BOTTOM LINE: For up to five days and 50 pounds, the Deva 70 will keep your mind on the scenery and off your shoulders.
EDITOR'S NOTE: We get a lot of calls about these packs from people wondering if they are new or used. They are brand new! We got a good deal on them and we're passing the savings on to you.

Since 1977, Gregory Mountain Products has been a pioneering force in the backpack industry. They were the first to build backpacks with different frame, harness, and waist sizes; the first (and still only) pack manufacturer to develop a waistbelt system that adjusts to fit different hip angles and improves load transfer; and the first to develop the center-locking bar tack, a strich that ends and locks off on the center of a seam instead of the side for increased strength at major stress points. From the earliest days, Gregory packs were noted for innovative design, ergonomic and comfortable fit, and their obsession with quality, comfort, and durability continues today.
