The Xplorer is the middle model of La Sportiva's approach shoe range, occupying the space between the hiking-shoe-like Boulder X and the climbing-shoe like Ganda. The company describes it as an "edging machine" for approaching rock climbing routes, speed climbing low-angle rock, traversing across slabs, canyoneering, and generally moving fast in the mountains - so if you're headed for Utah or anywhere else bare rock slabs abound, this shoe is for you. Its sticky rubber sole provides reassuring traction, while Toe Box Overwrap rand construction fights foot creep while edging and smearing.
Note that La Sportiva shoes are produced in European half sizes, which are smaller increments than American half sizes, so you can find a better fit. Check the sizing chart in the gray box above for the conversion.

I previously had the Sportiva Boulder X's but like these much more. Of course the Boulder X's had awesome rubber like all Sportiva products, but they didn't have good arch support and fit my foot too loosely. The Xplorer's fit my foot much better which gives me a much better feel closer to climbing shoes that I want on those miserable approaches. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for an approach shoe that has good support with a plenty stiff sole.
