The Mammut Light RAS Ready pack is a 30 liter ski/snowboard backpack which is compatible with the Mammut/Snowpulse Removable Airbag System.
Mammut's Snowpulse-designed RAS system was already one of the lighter systems on the market, but the weight weenies of the outdoor world will stop at nothing to further lighten their load. Enter the Light RAS Ready, a pack that drops 600 grams from the standard Nirvana Ride-based 30 liter RAS pack.
That weight always has to come from somewhere, of course. In this case, the Light RAS drops the padded hipbelt found on the standard version, retaining a webbing belt only. It also has a less-heavily-padded back. One of the two smaller pockets found on the top section of the Ride RAS is deleted, as are most of the internal organization options - the Light RAS retains only the key clip.
Perhaps the largest difference of all is in the fabric. The Light RAS is made of a lighter, more flexible ripstop nylon than the Cordura-like Ride RAS. It's still plenty durable for the kind of use the pack is likely to get, and it shaves a lot of weight.
So, if you like the idea of carrying less on your back (who doesn't?) and want to put together a complete airbag system, pick up the Light RAS from this page and then get yourself the airbag and canister - both of which are available here on GearX.com.
