Ah, sweet simplicity. Sometimes all you need is an empty volume, into which you can drop whatever without having to find the perfect pocket to put it in. It's fine to have goggle pockets and pen pockets and sleeping bag compartments, but what if the stuff you need to carry defies any of those labels? The Mammut Neon Element handles everything by being specific to nothing. A favorite daily companion of several GearX staff members, it hauls everything from climbing gear to groceries in its large, wide-open main pocket, whose roll-top closure can be closed for weather protection or left open for oversized objects. A small zippered front pocket and an internal key clip are its only concessions to further organization.Feature list from Mammut:
- Anatomically shaped, padded back
- Anatomically shaped, padded shoulder straps with soft, moisture-transporting stretch fabric cover.
- Large roll-top opening for practical access to the main compartment
- Front zip pocket
- Upper fabric: 420D Nylon
- Trim fabric: 1680D Ballistic Nylon

Crag pack and Grocery bagThis pack is my ideal daily commuter. Super simply, fast to open and close, and a pocket to throw my keys and phone to not get lost. I frequently get compliments about how cool this bag looks and at how well it holds groceries. With the top open it holds 2 plastic bags worth of groceries and you can clip the roll top while leaving it open to secure your goods while you ride your bike home. the middle strap also comes in handy when you have less in the pack and also allows you to loop on a pair of shoes or a water bottle to the outside of the pack. This bag also works great as a crag bag for climbing, shoes, harness, water, a small rack all fits and is easy to get to.
