We got a killer deal on this batch of Mammut shoes, simply because the size labels inside the tongues are incorrect. The US sizes shown are accurate, but they only added half a size to get the UK size, when they should have added a full one. Good thing we're right down the street from Mammut's North American headquarters - that means we are their go-to place in situations like these.
Mammut's Redburn GTX shoe is a highly technical, waterproof approach shoe. "For approaching what?" many customers ask. Well, approach shoes are a category of shoes which are intended for use by rock climbers as they approach their actual climbing routes. You don't need to be climbing to appreciate their features, however; they tend to be stiffer than typical light hiking shoes, which lends itself to better scrambling ability and less leg fatigue in steep terrain. They also have softer, stickier rubber in the toe area for better grip when scrambling. The Redburn in particular has a snug fit and a unique, non-gusseted tounge design designed to make the fit more "sock-like." In our experience, it works best for those with narrower feet.
