Necky introduced their first kayak in the mid-1970s, with the goal of improving upon traditional British kayak designs that dominated the market. While the Brits were making lean, cramped kayaks for high performance and maneuverability, Necky wanted to take a different approach. They wanted to build a kayak that was stable, roomy and comfortable, but still seaworthy. They adapted a high-volume whitewater design by adding sea-kayak class length, for a boat that performed well, without inducing claustrophobia. Necky also pioneered one of the first polymer sea kayak models, which was virtually indestructible, while still quick and fun to paddle. Today, Necky still makes recreational, day touring and performance sea kayaks in a variety of materials.
