Deuter found it's origins in 1898 supplying the Bavarian Royal Mail with mailbags and post sacks. In the first half of the 20th century they gained a lot of traction supplying armed forces and early mountaineering expeditions with backpacks, suitcases, tents, canopies, and the like. Then in 1968, Deuter forever changed the way backpacks would be made, introducing the first Nylon backpacks. Deuter later became the first company to make Kid Carrier Pack. They now concentrate their manufacturing efforts to continue making quality backpacks of all shapes and sizes, innovative sleeping bags, kid carriers, and other accessories.
Lumbar packs tend to be larger than fanny packs and ride higher on the hips. While larger than their fanny pack cousins lumbar packs still tend to be smaller than most day packs and offer a greater amount of airflow over the back. All lumbar packs carry water bottles and Mountainsmith models are often made of recycled materials. Check them out.
