Petzl - Nomic Ice Tool

Availability: In stock

Stock #: 85721

Regarded as one of the best ice and mixed climbing tools ever, the Nomic is the do it all tool. With a slightly added curve from the Quark, the Nomic swings naturally while keeping your hands safe from ice bang. Off-set, ergonomic grip paired with adjustable grip rest for all sized hands and gloves allows you to match with minimal shift while dry tooling. Thermally insulated Griptape on the upper handle provides an excellent secondary grip.

Removable weights in the modular head puts the weight of the tool more forward for easier driving into ice but can be taken out for dry tooling. The modular ice pick penetrates into any ice and pulls out easily to get to your next crux move fast. A serrated blade under the Griprest allows for better hold coming out of steep sections in hard ice or snow. The Nomic can also be equipped with a hammer for pounding pins.

Good swing but a lot of flex

I went for these tools over the fusion 2's since I rarely do mixed climbing. The swing was great but i noticed quite a bit of shaft flex and I cracked the upper plastic rest on my tools after one season leaving a salvageable aluminum nub. Great tool just curious to see how long they will hold up.

Favorite Vertical Ice Tool

I test drove these tools at Bolton Quarry and loved how they performed. Although they are heavier than the quarks the extra weight is appreciated. The pick weights allow for more force on the second half of your swings and i certainly noticed some better "sticks". The handle feels great in your hand and the additional grip up top makes for easier matching. Overall these are my favorite tools i have used on vertical ice thus far.
