While a pretty simple concept, with several similar brands to compete with, the Platy Big Zip is simply the best of the bunch. I've had an experience with two other popular brands, which were okay. However, I always had issues with taste and cleaning. not so with the Big Zip Platy!!

1.) Platypus uses an anti-microbial coating (if I'm not mistaken) that helps preserve a clean taste when you can't get home to wash it on a multi-day trip. As I mentioned above I've ran into this issue with other brands, but the Platy was essentially tasteless after a week long trip.
2.) When you do get to clean it, the big opening on top makes it super easy! (versus a small screw cap hole on the regular Platy and most other brands). You can get a sponge and your whole hand in there.
3.) I've never had leaking problems in any of my bladders (thankfully!!), but rest assured there I haven't had any issues with the Big Zip over the past year or so. It's sealed tight via ziploc, plus the plastic piece that "zips" over the opening. The bottom piece where the water feeds, is a snap tight fitting and again I have had no issues.
4.) Last, but certainly not least. The GIANT opening at the top makes filling the bladder a breeze! No spilling!
